In the area of digitization in particular, many new technologies are emerging that also have an influence on the technological orientation of PI. For example, TSN is fundamentally changing the real-time properties of Ethernet, security is a priority, OPC UA is gaining momentum and becoming an important component of Industry 4.0, Ethernet-APL is opening up new areas of application in process automation as a new physical layer for Ethernet, and safety is now also possible via IO-Link. New technologies such as omlox or MTP complement this technology portfolio.
But how do these innovations affect PI technologies, how do they interact, and what role will PI play in the digitalization of industry? Where is the journey heading?
